The
Phénix workshops are designed for men who wish to reduce their risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections such as HIV, and who may not always have been able to find the ways to easily achieve this on their own. Unlike other approaches which may give the impression that you need to make a choice between of either sexual pleasure, satisfaction and risk reduction. Phénix explicitly shows you how to combine eroticism and risk reduction. Being fully aware that multiple factors may be in play and influence the willingness of gay and bisexual men to take sexual risks, not all expose themselves to the same risks even when presented with the same set of circumstances and for the same reasons. Phénix explores lots of examples of circumstances and factors which may negatively impact on the intention to prevent placing yourself in risky situations:
- using alcohol of other drugs which may reduce your ability to be vigilant and may contribute to taking risks that you wouldn't otherwise take,
- seeking intimacy can make certain men decide to take risks in order to feel closer to their partners,
- seeking intense sexual experiences where using a condom may be seen as an obstacle,
- negative perceptions about condom use such as problems maintaining an erection,
- life problems which may put looking after our own health as not really important,
- assumptions about the perceived sero-status of sexual partners,
- the inability to communicate your preoccupations about risk with your partner.
We will be holding separate workshops based on HIV Status.
You will receive a confirmation email.
