Pets are a wonderful source of love, affection, and activity. People living with HIV/AIDS find pets to be an important source of support. ACCM recognizes the importance of pets in our clients’ lives, and in order to help keep clients and pets healthy, offers the Therapet program. Therapet’s main components are bi-annual veterinarian clinics on ACCM’s premises and the Emergency Pet Care Financial Assistance Program.

Therapet clinics are held in the fall and the spring, at ACCM’s main office. The clinics consist of an inexpensive consultation with a veterinarian, as well as reduced-cost vaccinations and a variety of other basic care products such as flea treatment medications

The Emergency Pet Care Financial Assistance Program is drawn from a non-renewable fund available for clients to access. Monies can be made available for reimbursement to clients of ACCM should they require emergency financial assistance to cover some of the costs associated with emergency veterinarian care (not available for basic maintenance, neutering or Therapet clinic expenses). The rules regarding these funds are outlined in the Therapet Emergency Pet Care Policy.
