Buddy
Program
One-on-one support
for people living with HIV/AIDS
Fortunately, more people with HIV/AIDS are living happy and healthy
lives. Nevertheless, many face isolation, and lack support or understanding
from friends, family and communities. Isolation often leads to depression,
which is a serious obstacle to leading a healthy life. The Buddy
Program offers support to people who are isolated or experiencing
a loss of autonomy due to a progression of their illness. A
Buddy is a well-trained volunteer who can provide emotional support
to ACCM clients.
Buddies
help clients maintain their independence and provide companionship
to relieve isolation.
Buddy Support
The main goal of the Buddy
Program is to help improve quality of life for people with HIV/AIDS
by providing one-on-one support. Your Buddy will maintain regular
contact with you, and will schedule regular visits. During this time,
you can count on your Buddy to be attentive and sensitive to your
needs.
Buddy Training
In order to
provide effective and reliable support, ACCM Buddies are obligated
to take the following trainings:
•
HIV 101 & 201
• Active Listening 101 & 201
• Depression and Suicide
• Harm Reduction
• Death, Dying and Bereavement
• Transphobia
• Queerphobia
